Ontario Collector Con - 2016

Today we were at the Ontario Collector Con, also known as the Action Figure Expo. This one of many smaller events that are held each year in Mississauga, a suburb of Toronto. This is great little event that just keeps on growing. Today attendance exceeded two thousand fans. If this keep up they'll have to start looking for a larger venue. If you're into vintage toys from the 60s, 70, and 80s then this is definitely the con for you. In addition they also had a lot of they newer high end toys as well, including pieces from some of the best manufactures in the industry today such as Gentle Giant, Hot Toys and Side Show collectibles.

Davie Jones and The King Bees - Liza Jane

In 1963 David Jones aka David Bowie joined a band called the King Bees as a sax player, eventually becoming the lead singer. This is their lead-off  single "Liza Jane", such a great song, such a great artist. Rest in Peace David a life well lived.

Star Wars - The Force Awakens.

OK, I saw it on opening night December 18th and I saw it again last weekend. A masterful blend of the old generation and the new, Star Wars: The Force Awakens brings the franchise back to its full, impeccable form. Very much what I expected from Abrams, a great ride from beginning to end. If anything the only issue I had was that it bared many similarities to the original film (A New Hope - Episode IV) so in that respect it did lack some originality, but I'm OK with that. I love the fact they kept the CGI to a minimum, it was refreshing to see real movie sets again, constructed by real carpenters and real prop makers, some very talented people worked on this project. True to life scale models, realistic puppetry, Matt paintings and all those cool things that made the original three films so spectacular. Also very impressed with the work of Daisey Ridley excellent performance by her and the rest of the cast. Congratulations Disney, you didn't f--k it up... now keep it going.

Episode 36 - January Awakens

The latest Episode of my Comic Book Channel. Given that Star Wars recently hit the theaters many of these books relate to Star Wars, however there are some pretty cool Bronze Age books near the end.

Darth Vader's Helmet - Empire Strkes Back - $115,000.00

Did you know that the screen used Darth Vader Helmet from Empire Strikes Back sold at auction for $115,000.00 dollars...now you do...It was sold through Profiles in History (See link on right) a Hollywood memorabilia site that specializes in auctioning off some very fine movie props. Many of the Star Wars props from the original three films were auctioned though this site.

Iron Man #1

I picked up one of my Holy Grail's this week. Iron Man #1, Vol. 1 May 1968.  Iron Man's first ongoing solo series. The series was launched following the success of the Iron Man stories in Tales of Suspense. Truth be told I didn't think I'd ever own this book but I got a really good deal on it $250.00. It's not a perfect copy, perhaps a VG at best but it's good enough for me. I'm super excited about owning this book.
