Dynamic Forces - Darth Vader #1

One of the interesting things Marvel has done with the new line of Star Wars comic books is to license out to certain companies the right to producer exclusive covers in very limited quantities. They've done this for not only Star Wars, but also the Princess Leia and Darth Vader comic books as well. While generally more expensive than the standard addition they are highly sought after by Star Wars fans and very difficult to acquire. I picked up this little gem last weekend at one of my local comic books stores "Gotham Central Comics"" in Mississauga. This is the Darth Vader #1, Dynamic Forces Exclusive cover, one of a specially limited series of 3000 copies. It cost me $25.00 which inst cheep but well worth the money. One of the nicest Darth Vader covers I've see so far and I'm super excited about finding this. As you can see it comes with its own certificates of authenticity, Custom Medallion stamp sealed in an archival Mylite bag.

Toronto Comic Book Show (TBCS) April 24 - 2016

Just got back from a really fantastic show. The Toronto Comic Book Show has quickly become Ontario’s hottest pop-up comic book events  featuring the very best in Bronze Age, Silver Age, Golden Age and Modern books from publishers like Aspen, DC, Image, Marvel, Valliant and Wildstorm to name just a few. 45 vendors carrying all genres of raw and graded Comic Books were in attendance and I picked up some real gems.. Among my finds, Red Sonja #1, Ghostly Tales #112 (Charlton), Captain Marvel #34 and my favorite picks of the day Ms. Marvel #16 and # 18 (First Appearance of Mystique). These are by no means the only books I picked up today I spent alot more money that I wanted. Ahh well ...

 The Toronto Comic Book show is held 4 times per year, the nest show is in June. 

 Unfortunately this one was slightly out of my price range so I had to leave it behind for the time being. 

 Dealers not only inside the rooms but in the hallways as well. 

This guy had a lot of really nice Silver & Bronze Age horror books in surprising good condition. I picked up some mid to high grade Charlton books from the early 70s, very happy with my purchases.

 Fantastic variety of books to fit all budgets, I spent about $300.00 today which it a bit more that I had planed for. 

 The prices at this show were better than those found the bigger shows. Still with the explosion of the comic collecting market in the last couple of years, prices still weren't cheap. 

 Some good deals in these boxes but also a lot of shit as well...

Here's my Ms. Marvel #18 the first appearance of Mystique. The price he was asking was $100.00, I talked him down to $85.00, still not cheap but this is a major key I've been looking for and needed to have.

Ms. Marvel #20, first time she wore the black costume. I minor key, but a key just the same. I paid $40.00 for this very high grade copy. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Definitely a Ms. Marvel kind of day for me. I also picked up this high grade copy of #16 which is the first cameo appearance of Mystique. This is definitely worth getting if you can find it. The asking price on this one was $80.00 but I talked him down to $65.00.

Star Wars #16 Yu Variant.

I was lucky enough to acquire the Star Ware #16 Yu variant last weekend. It cost me $15.00 bucks and that exactly what it's worth. I found this little gem at one of my local comic book haunts Gotham Central Comics in Mississauga, I love the cover, I definitely prefer it to the regular cover and I'm very happy with this find.

Episode 36 - January Awakens

The latest Episode of my Comic Book Channel. Given that Star Wars recently hit the theaters many of these books relate to Star Wars, however there are some pretty cool Bronze Age books near the end.

Iron Man #1

I picked up one of my Holy Grail's this week. Iron Man #1, Vol. 1 May 1968.  Iron Man's first ongoing solo series. The series was launched following the success of the Iron Man stories in Tales of Suspense. Truth be told I didn't think I'd ever own this book but I got a really good deal on it $250.00. It's not a perfect copy, perhaps a VG at best but it's good enough for me. I'm super excited about owning this book.

San Diego Comic-Con 2015 LIVE From Red Giant Entertainment Booth #2635

For those like myself that can't make it to San Diego for this years Comic-Con Red Giant Entertainment is broadcasting live from Booth #2635 all weekend. This is really cool and to my knowledge this is the first time this has ever been done.

Alex Maleev Variant - Star Wars #1

Star Wars #1 Warp 9 Variant" by Alex Maleev. This is another variant I'm looking for by was unable to find. I don't think that a lot of these covers were even available in Canada. If they were, I sure didn't find them at any of the stores I shop at. Looks like I'm going to be spending some money at the comic con in March.

Star Wars #1 - Premium Variant

Picked up this really nice 1:50 variant of the new Staw Wars number 1 today. It wasn't cheap, costing me 50 bucks, Ouch! ...Ahh well it's just money right... I was actually looking for the Alex Ross variant but I had no luck finding one. I think it's going to tough getting one as it seems to be the one that everybody wants. My local store had one copy, it sold for $100.00

As of today's date my collection stands at 774 books worth a market value of approximately $7,700.00

Star Wars #1 - 2015

Got it...

Great Art, Good story. But the print run is over one million copies so don't expect it to skyrocket in value because it certainly will not. I also picked up about 5 different variants as well.

Halloween Special - 2014

My Latest Comic Book Haul. These fine books were all acquired at the Hamilton Comic Con last weekend. I found some really great bronze age books and one or two silvers as well. Well worth the hour drive to get there.

2001 A Space Odessy #3

It's amazing what you can find in the $3.00 bin at some of these comic book conventions. I found a near mint copy of 2001 A Space Odyssey #3. I absolutely love the Jack Kirby covers and for three buck you can't really go wrong. Set aside the fact the entire book is done by Kirby, its also almost 40 years old and in pristine condition. Not a whole lotta respect from the comic book community for this wonderfully illustrated adaptions of one of the most monumental Sci-Fi films of all time. I believe with time this will change so if you can find this book it's definitely worth picking up.

X-men #129

I picked a lot of books at the Fan Expo last weekend,  the nicest of which was my X-Men #129.  This is latest pick up as I endeavor to acquire  the entire John Byrne X-men run. The copy I purchased was rated as Fine but I believe it's a bit better that that. It was listed at $40.00 but I managed a bit of a discount so it ended up costing me $35.00. They had a N/M copy on display but the asking price was $100.00, still not a bad price considering Comic Book Realm has it listed for #180.00. This is a pretty seminal book so it's unlikely that you'll find a copy cheap. In addition to it being the first appearance of Kitty Pryde, it's also the first appearance of the Hellfire Club, the White Queen (Emma Frost) the Black King (Sebastian Shaw) and many others. I'm extremely excited about owning this book.

Amazing Spiderman # 67

December 1968, a really nice John Romita cover, I just picked up a nice high grade copy of this issue yesterday. With the exception of a small amount of spine roll (hardly noticeable) and a slight yellowing the book is pretty much perfect. It was hanging on the wall with a price tag of $70.00 but I managed to talk him down to $40.00. It's now the oldest Spiderman in my collection. Not a key book by any means, but still a nice book to have.

Episode 16 - More great books from my Collection

My latest You Tube video, picked up some really great books over the past couple of weeks including a really great copy of X-men #135 and number #35. Kudos to Dynamite Comic and DC comics on the new Batmen 66 meets Green Hornet Series, I'm really enjoying it.  Kevin Smith and actor/comedian Ralph Garman work with artist Ty Templeton to bring these two iconic characters and their famous partners together again.

 

X-Men # 35 - August 1967

Picked up X-Men #35 last weekend, not a bad copy and probably the best one I can afford for the time being. In near mint condition this books lists for somewhere around $600.00. However the copy I purchased is probably a VG or VG + at best, giving it a value of somewhere in the $100.00 range. That said I'm very happy with it, I've been looking for this book for quite some time. My local comic book store gave me a killer deal on it.

Niagara Comic Con 2014 - Video

Some of the video footage I shot last week at the Niagara Comic Con. This is a really well run event, the organizers did a great job of keeping the lines moving and the venue was ideal relative to the attendance.

Captain America # 126

Picked up a pretty decent copy of Captain America #126 today at my local comic book store. It isn't perfect but for eight bucks you wont hear any complaints from me. Especially considering that the cover art was done by Jack Kirby. Not an expensive book by any means, in near mint you shouldn't pay any more that $30 - $40
